MUSEUM INDEX CAPTAIN SAILING MASTER QUARTERMASTER SURGEON

"The Carpenter"

Large pirate vessels, such as the Whydah, usually had more than one carpenter aboard owing to the importance of such skills. Carpenters were responsible for maintaining the integrity of the ship’s hull as well as making any needed repairs to masts or spars.

Thomas Davis and Thomas South were two carpenters among Bellamy’s crew at the time of the wreck.

To that end, this section of the online museum features artifacts related to carpentry and to the ship’s hull and its components.
